Investigating the emergence of space, time and memory in the brain

The Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience (KISN) is an interdisciplinary village of experts with the common desire to understand how complex information is encoded in high-level neural networks and how complex behaviours arise from these codes and systems.

AREAS OF INQUIRY

The overarching goal of Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience research is to use new technology to explore fundamental algorithms of high-end cortical neural-circuit computation, with the following efforts:

  • Establishing methods for monitoring activity in thousands of cells simultaneously
  • Developing statistical tools for high-dimensional data analysis and modeling
  • Identifying high-end neural population codes for spatial and navigation, hierarchical sensory processing and multisensory integration, decision making, and social behavior – in animals and humans
