Summary:
Outreach and educational programs are directed to the community, local teachers and students, and science journalists. These programs allow the public to engage with renowned scientists whose research is at the frontiers of science, as well as educators skilled at explaining the applications of theoretical physics -- whether for understanding phenomena in space, or advancing medicine.

Sample Activities:

KITP Public Lecture. Learn how in 1956, amateur scientists contributed to what became the twentieth century's grandest science project.

Physics for the Inquiring Mind - KITP Public Lectures. Each year, up to four public lectures present distinguished scientists discussing research and ideas that are transforming our understanding of the universe. Past lecturers include Stephen Hawking, Robert Kirshner and Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics (KITP) Director David Gross. Webcam and audio versions of most lectures are archived on the web.

Annual Science Teachers Conference. An annual one-day conference that introduces high school science teachers to the latest discoveries and ideas in science. Approximately 120 teachers attend this event from all over the country, and interact with leading scientists in their fields. (Some financial support is available)

High School Physics Enrichment. Provides opportunities for KITP postdoctoral students to make presentations in local high school physics classes, and to contribute to programs for teens in local museum programs, such as the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
