The winners of the 2012 USA Science & Engineering Kavli Science Video Contest “Save the World Through Science & Engineering” video contest, were announced  at the 2^nd USA Science & Engineering Festival. Middle school and high school students were challenged to investigate innovations and solutions to improve our planet, inspired by the National Academy of Engineering’s Grand Challenges. The goal of the contest is to promote participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects and science and engineering careers.were announced at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C.

The video contest received over 260 entries. Students proposed innovative solutions for new sources of energy, access to clean water, robotics, biotechnology, urban planning, and transportation. The winners were awarded in a ceremony hosted by Bill Nye, as part of the festival.

1st Place   "Saving with Solar" Cameron Quon - Santa Clarita, CA

2nd Place  "Bioprinting" Julia Kudryashev - Cockeysville, MD 

3rd Place  "Saving the Planet through Science and Engineering" - Alex Nieman, Anna Spitz, Kevin Liberman, Amit Silverstein - Irvine, CA

People's Choice  "Saving the World with Robots" Rachit Agarwal - Clarksburg, MD
